The Dependant Independence!!

What is being ‘Independent’? Is it just a feeling or a phenomenon? When do we say that we are independent? Isn’t it when we think we can act or behave in the way we wish or intend to, irrespective of other factors involved? But, if we really began to ponder, we might come to realize that it’s not possible to act independently without completely relying on certain other factors. Let’s ponder by looking at some simple examples:
1. Crossing the road: - Let’s analyze the statement when someone says, ‘I can cross the road on my own.’ To be able to cross the road, isn’t this person being fully dependant on others rationale and road sense. Is he not relying on the fact that no one is going to try to hurt him if he follows traffic rules? Would he be able to cross the road the same way if he was unsure if people want to avoid a hit? Since he is not even thinking about such factors, isn’t he completely relying on them? Clearly, it would not be wrong to say that he is completely dependent on such factors to cross the road.
2. Financial independence needs finance: - Often we hear the term ‘financial independence’. In fact, this is what most of us strive for at different times in our lives. According to Wikipedia, ‘Financial independence’ is a term generally used to describe the state of having sufficient personal wealth to live indefinitely without having to work actively for basic necessities. The very definition includes a condition. Hence, even this form of independence is dependent on the wealth you possess.
Such a view makes one wonder that if things are interdependent then how or why the word ‘independence’ was even created. Does it really exit or is it just one word for less or specific dependence? The degree of dependence required for ‘independence’ is of course contextual, but is does make one wonder if one can be independent.

  3. Independance exists within the context of permitted cabilities. What the blog is attempting to sound is why hanker for it.Why get so overwhelmed by this thought(independence) so as to constrict what is possible within the given context. You can grieve because you cannot fly like a bird( a symble of freedom)and lose what you can accompalish with what you have been endowed with.
We are not creaures of our will.We have freedom to operate( force our will) within the limitations set by our origins.

  4. An after thought. To make the article more contextual,Varun may narrate what made him to write on this subject. What are the experiences /thought processes/compelling concepts which made him to write this. What is so strong about the subject that he thought his first blog should express this

  7. The mind plays a very important role while deciding on any course of action or whenever it responds to any stimuli...if the mind is filled with fear and doubts even small activities like crossing the road becomes a struggle or even drinking a glass of water its just that we get clouded by thoughts and take them for real..but then something real for me can be unreal for the other person..all minds are differently wired...and the struggle is to free ourselves from our mind...:-)
